Blog #133: Fellow Julio Louis with Yspaniola

Julio Louis grew up in Batey Libertad, a small rural community of Dominicans, Haitians, and Dominican-Haitians in the Cibao region of the Dominican Republic.  Yspaniola has been making a major push toward empowering local leaders in the community, and as a result of receiving the AllPeopleBeHappy Fellows grant, Julio stepped into a large leadership role in the organization as Director of Operations.  He is involved in overseeing all Yspaniola programs, in particular the experiential learning program, the university scholarship program, and directing Yspaniola’s participation in other community projects in Batey Libertad.  His role in the organization will model Yspaniola’s ultimate vision for the community – that community members form the foundation of Yspaniola’s leadership and become the force that moves the organization forward toward the benefit of all.
