Over the past year, Kossoye Development Program (KDP) seed producers have grown many more carrot seeds than expected – more than enough for the 200,000 packets that will be combined in sets with 3 other kinds of seed (kale, chard and cabbage). 140 seed packers in 3 locations (Yenege Tesfay’s new storage building, the University of Gondar Agriculture Campus, and the Dabat Training Center) worked diligently over 3 months to put the packets together. This year KDP is distributing seeds through 250 elementary schools, 7 universities, and other organizations. At least in the abstract, this can add vitamin A rich vegetables for 1 million people in a region where 44% of women and children suffer from serious malnutrition.
