Recently we celebrated Juneteenth, the day the news of the Emancipation Proclamation finally reached Texas. We also commemorated the 7th anniversary of Eric’s death. Though the years in some ways have dulled the edges of our grief, the passage of time also enhances to our understanding of the meaning of forever. It is easy to get maudlin this time of year and dwell on “what if’s” and “if only,” but it is also hard to think about Eric for long and not find a reason smile. How he would have enjoyed this World Cup! We could almost hear him cheering as we watch match after match. This year’s competition is a marvelous example of what Eric taught us about the sport over the years. Teams made up of skilled players who understand the meaning of teamwork can often beat a team made up of superstars. The love of soccer/football is just one of the many gifts Eric has given us. Through the Foundation and the many fantastic individuals, communities, and organizations we have come to know we are continually reminded of how blessed we were, but also how important it is to make each day count. All People Be Happy, Barbara and Sunny.
