In the application for our Volunteer Service Award, we ask the applicant to tell us “What do you feel will lead to a world where All People Can Be Happy?” In this and the next several blogs are excerpts from the applications of five of this year’s grant recipients which describe their thoughts.
VSA recipient Eileen Ferry: “What will lead to a world where all people can be happy? I think in order to answer this question, you first need to ask – what does it mean for people to be happy? I firmly believe the answer to this question is human connection. While all people have varying needs of human connection, I think no matter what, that is the bottom line. On our most basic and humanistic and biological level, we all crave connection and interaction with other people. We all crave to feel a sense of belonging, a sense of being understood. We all crave someone to celebrate our moments of joy and console us in our moments of sadness.”
