In the application for our Volunteer Service Award, we ask the applicant to tell us “What do you feel will lead to a world where All People Can Be Happy?” In this and four other blogs are excerpts from the applications of several of this year’s grant recipients which describe their thoughts.
2014 VSA Recipient Amanda Lusk: Happiness is something that everyone can achieve if they are willing to. During my stay in Tanzania last summer I realized that the smallest things made the community happy, especially the kids. I brought many little gifts to the rural village. I remember the first thing I brought out was a coloring book for one of the little kids, he had never had one or seen one before. The smile that was on his face touched my heart. People don’t realize that the smallest things you do can make people the happiest. Therefore I believe that anyone can be happy no matter the situation. Happiness can be achieved by anything from eating food or putting a smile on someone’s face. The contribution I can make to make others happy is doing the small things in life. A simple hello or giving someone a compliment can make someone happy.
