The challenges we face working in the developing world often seems insurmountable, and whatever we do often seems insignificant, or not enough. Yet once in a while, a few statistics come along that brightens our days. The World Bank tells us that in 1981, over 50% of the world live in extreme poverty (on less than $1.25 per day), but by 2010, only 21% of the earth’s inhabitants faced such a circumstances. That’s a drop of 60%! Over the past 20 years, birthing conditions and the health of infants rose markedly, with world infant mortality falling by 44%. World literacy rate has increased; now 9 out 10 people aged 15-24 in the world are literate. Of course, there’s still much to be done, so the mission of AllPeopleBeHappy is to end extreme poverty, focusing on education and training, health care, and sustainable agriculture.
