Late last year, we initiated a new program, Challenge Grant. The AllPeopleBeHappy Challenge Grant is a $100,000 maximum matching grant distributed over 3 years. The proposed project/program is required to be a scale up, expansion, or major “step-out” of the organization’s current operations. Indego Africa and Global Emergency Care Collaborative (GECC) were selected as inaugural recipients for these grants. Indego Africa is a non-profit social enterprise that creates jobs and sustainable livelihoods for female artisan entrepreneurs through market access and education. After three months of research, Indego Africa, whose primary operation is in Rwanda, has decided to concentrate on duplicating their program in the country of Ghana. GECC has developed an innovative training program in acute/emergency care for mid-level providers. This novel training program for Emergency Care Practitioners (ECPs) is currently being put to use in Uganda. The AllPeopleBeHappy Challenge Grant is being utilized to expand GECC’s program into Kenya. After 3 months, GECC has hired an Operations Manager and is negotiating to partner with Kenya Medical Training College in Nairobi to replicate the ECP training program there.
