The following is an excerpt from the mid-year Project Grant report in sustainable agriculture from Kossoye Project in Ethiopia:
“In the first six-months of 2015, our full program of teacher and student training on household gardening was carried out in 39 schools (up from 11 in 2014) with seed set distribution to 22,084 students (up from 13,500). In these 39 schools, all homeroom teachers experienced planting vegetables before guiding their students in doing it themselves. During May and June, the teachers were trained by our staff and were given sets of four kinds of vegetable seeds to take home to plant with their families’ assistance.
In addition, there were sets of seeds distributed to 15,000 students in 53 more schools in the lowland area for a total of 92 schools. Altogether there were 37,084 students and more than 3,000 community members who received seeds for a total of 40,084 recipients, three times as many as in all of 2014!”
