We recently renewed for the sixth year in a row AllPeopleBeHappy Project Grant to Village Health Works. Village Health Works (VHW) runs a health clinic in rural Burundi, and for our first three years, we helped to establish their food and nutrition program, teaching thousands of rural villagers on how to grow their own food and to combat malnutrition. Then in 2012 and 2013, we helped to establish their primary education program. Mainly through teachers training, practice test taking, and after-school classes, the program improved the literacy of the children to enable more of them to pass the national exam to qualify to enter into secondary school. In 2014, the third grant in this endeavor aim to focus and deepen VHW’s education efforts, with the primary focus being on the 8 primary schools in the Kigutu catchment area.
