The drought continues. Only meager rain has fallen during the “rainy season” in the highlands of the Kossoye/Gondar region. The Ethiopian Government seems to be doing well in avoiding deaths from starvation by strategic food distribution. Increasing food prices are severely pressuring families that normally spend up to 70% of income for food. Kossoye Development Program (KDP) provided seeds for over 40,000 students in 101 schools in May and June. Whenever rains do begin, seeds will be reading for planting. Requests for additional seed sets for hard-hit areas continue to arrive; the total number of seed sets distributed to students and other community members has passed 70,000 this fiscal year.
