Hope Through Health (HTH) received a Project Grant in August of 2015 to upgrade its Pediatric HIV Program in the northern city of Kara, Togo. As a result of this grant funding, HTH was able to initiate new activities and offer new services. These activities include hiring a trained psychologist to provide psychosocial consultations and counseling to children and their families; extending nursing hours to ensure the availability of out-patient clinical care after regular operating hours; and expanding enrichment clubs for children and caregiver/parent support groups.
Over the period of this grant, the Pediatric HIV program enrolled an additional 12 children in care, thus providing services (medical, nutritional, school fees and books) to a total of 118 children living with HIV. Furthermore, the program extended the number of children receiving lifesaving ART (antiretroviral therapy) to 110 children. Nearly 100 children attended support groups, 42 parents and guardians participated in support groups, and 21 children and their families worked with the psychologist.
