Comunidad Connect received in August 2015 a Project Grant to provide water filter systems to 50 families in San Esteban, Jinotega, Nicaragua. The project involves providing simple, locally made, affordable ceramic water filters to the families in exchange for community service project hours. During the latter part of 2015, communication with community leaders, health workers, and the interested families were carried out. In the early part of 2016, the water filters systems were delivered, set up, and tested.
The community service projects for the first set of beneficiaries included repairing and fencing in the entrance to the cemetery, plus cleaning of the cemetery; construction of a small kitchen for the elementary school, repairing fence at the elementary school, and clearing of land in the school garden; clearing and restoring drainage ditches on community roads and paths.
