AllPeopleBeHappy foundation was established on August 29, 2007 by the family and friends of Eric Tang, following his untimely death at the young age of 25. The Foundation was borne out of Eric’s hope that All People Be Happy, which he used as the pseudonym for his blog.
The AllPeopleBeHappy foundation received its 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status on November 20, 2007. In 2007, in order to fulfill its mission of supporting new and innovative organizations working to alleviate global poverty, the Foundation made grants to Room to Read, Young Heroes, Invisible Children, Medical Bridges, FORGE, A Glimmer of Hope, Acumen Fund, Nothing But Nets, UNA-USA’s HERO, and UNHCR’s NineMillion. Micro-loans were also made through Kiva.org.
In 2008, the Foundation made 8 grants totaling $82,000 to eight US-based non-profits: Young Heroes (doing work in Swaziland), Orphans Against AIDS (Thailand), The Equilibrium Fund (Nicaragua), One Acre Fund (Kenya), Amizade (Tanzania), Support for International Change (Tanzania), Room to Read (Sri Lanka), and Village Health Works (Burundi).
In 2009, the Foundation made 10 major grants totaling $102,000 to The Equilibrium Fund (Nicaragua,Honduras), One Acre Fund (Kenya), Amizade (Tanzania), Support for International Change (Tanzania), Room to Read (Sri Lanka), ETASHA Society (India), Indego Africa (Rwanda), The Kossoye Project (Ethopia), and Comunidad Connect (Nicaragua). We also made 7 small grants and 2 minigrants.
In 2010, the Foundation made grants totaling $107,850 to 18 different organizations. Major grants were awarded to Inside Out Learning (Kenya), SSrishti Learning Center (India), Support for International Change (Tanzania), Friends of Nepal Pariwar Foundation (Nepal), Global Emergency Care Collaborative (Uganda), Amizade (Tanzania), Village Health Works (Burundi), The Kossoye Project (Ethiopia), and Indego Africa (Rwanda). A new initiative, the AllPeopleBeHappy Volunteer Service Award, was launched, with five first year recipients.
In 2011, the Foundation made grants totaling $118,300 to 15 different organizations. Major grants were awarded to Thanda (South Africa), Asha for Education (India), Global Emergency Care Collaborative (Uganda), Friends of Nepal Pariwar Foundation (Nepal), Face AIDS (Rwanda), Bodhi Tree Foundation (Nepal), Sankara Eye Foundation (India), Mya Nut Institute (Nicaragua), The Kossoye Project (Ethiopia), Indego Africa (Rwanda), and Common Ground for Africa (Kenya). We also granted nine AllPeopleBeHappy Volunteer Service Awards.
In 2012, the Foundation made grants totalling $113,382 to 18 different organizations. Major grants were awarded to Asha for Education (India), Global Emergency Care Collaborative (Uganda), 50 Cents Period (Uganda), Friends of Nepal Pariwar Foundation (Nepal), Bodhi Tree Foundation (Nepal), The Kossoye Project (Ethiopia), Indego Africa (Rwanda), Sparks MicroGrants (Rwanda), Village Health Works (Burundi), and Cercle Social (Benin). We also granted fourteen AllPeopleBeHappy Volunteer Service Awards.
In 2013, the Foundation made grants totaling $189,811 in our 4 programs. Challenge Grants were awarded to Global Emergency Collaborative and Indego Africa. We awarded 8 Project Grants to Indego Africa (Rwanda), The Kossoye Project (Ethiopia), Village Health Works (Burundi), myAgro (Mali), 50 Cents Period (Uganda), Friends of Nepal Pariwar Foundation (Nepal), Malayaka House (Uganda), and Cercle Social(Benin). We also granted 17 Volunteer Service Awards, and made 4 Fellows grants.
In 2014, the Foundation made grants totaling $168,670 in our 4 programs. Second year Challenge Grants were awarded to Global Emergency Collaborative and Indego Africa. We awarded 6 Project Grants to Mercado Global (Guatemala), The Kossoye Project (Ethiopia), Village Health Works (Burundi), Green Empowerment (Nicaragua), Spark MicroGrants (Rwanda), and Friends of Nepal Pariwar Foundation (Nepal). We also granted 22 Volunteer Service Awards, and made 2 Fellows grants.
In 2015, the Foundation made grants totaling $192,755 in our 4 programs. Third year Challenge Grants were awarded to Global Emergency Collaborative and Indego Africa. We awarded 8 Project Grants to Mercado Global (Guatemala), Kossoye Development Program (Ethiopia), Village Health Works (Burundi), Comunidad Connect (Nicaragua), Hope Through Health (Togo), Friends of Nepal Pariwar Foundation (Nepal), Little Sisters Fund (Nepal), and Project Alianza (Nicaragua). We also granted 25 Volunteer Service Awards, and made 2 Fellows grants. The milestone of a million dollar in grants awarded was reached in late 2015.
In 2016, the Foundation made grants totaling $134,235 in our 4 programs. We awarded 9 Project Grans to Mercado Global (Guatemala), Kossoye Development Program (Ethiopia), Village Health Works (Burundi), Indego Africa (Rwanda), Green Empowerment (Ecuador), Friends of Nepal Pariwar Foundation (Nepal), Little Sisters Fund (Nepal), Project Alianza (Nicaragua), and Cercle Social (Benin). We also granted 16 Volunteer Service Awards, and made 4 Fellows grants.
In 2017, the Foundation made grants totaling $182,378 in our 4 programs. First year Challenge Grant was awarded to a joint venture of LifeNet International and Global Emergency Care. We awarded 9 Project Grants to Mercado Global (Guatemala), Kossoye Development Program (Ethiopia), Village Health Works (Burundi), Saha Global (Ghana), Friends of Nepal Pariwar Foundation (Nepal), Little Sisters Fund (Nepal), Indego Africa (Ghana), A Breeze of Hope (Bolivia), and Green Empowerment (Nicaragua). We also granted 15 Volunteer Service Awards, and made 4 Fellows grants.
In 2018, the Foundation made grants totaling $216,699 in our 5 programs. Second year Challenge Grant was awarded to the joint venture of LifeNet International and Global Emergency Care. We established a new grant category, the Opportunity Projects. We awarded 13 Project Grants to A Breeze of Hope (Bolivia), Amizade (various), Friends of Nepal Pariwar Foundation, Little Sisters Fund and Sunsar Maya in Nepal, Green Empowerment (Nicaragua), Kossoye Development Program (Ethiopia), Mercado Global (Guatemala), Saha Global (Ghana), Sunflower and The Pangea Network in Kenya, The Chain Collaborative and The Recreation Project in Uganda. We also granted 14 Volunteer Service Awards and made 1 Fellows Program grant.
In 2019, the Foundation made grants totaling $251,969 in our 5 programs. Third year Challenge Grant was awarded to the joint venture of LifeNet International and Global Emergency Care. Under Opportunity Projects, the “Solar in Tanzania” project provided solar power to 36 primary schools. We awarded 13 Project Grants to A Breeze of Hope (Bolivia), The Superkids Foundation (Paraguay), Little Sisters Fund and Sunsar Maya in Nepal, Project Alianza (Nicaragua), Green Empowerment (Philippines, Ecuador), CoCoDA (El Salvador), Saha Global (Ghana), Mercado Global and De La Gente in Guatemala, Sunflower Global and The Pangea Network in Kenya. We also granted 13 Volunteer Service Awards and made 4 Fellows Program grants.
